The Theory Test is a major step
towards improving road safety in the UK and is compulsory for those
wishing to obtain a full driving licence. It consists of 50 multiple
choice questions covering the Highway Code and general road safety,
also the Hazard Perception Test, consisting of 14 clips, one of
which has two hazards. You need to take and pass your theory test
before you can apply for your practical test.

You can complete an application form (TT26) and send it with your
fee to the Driving Standards Agency, or you can make a telephone
booking with a credit card / debit card on 08700 101372. Application
forms are available from either your local test centre or from your
driving instructor.

There are many books available to help you prepare for your theory
test. You will need to have a knowledge of The Highway Code and
understand the principles of road safety.
We at Chevron provide you with
theory test training along side your driving lessons, so you can
learn to drive while you study, putting theory into practice. You
will be provided with our
comprehensive Theory Test Training book. It contains details about
the theory test as well as 350 mock questions for you and your instructor
to work through and the official show me tell me questions. The
most common reason for failing the theory test is not being prepared.
So don't rush, only apply when you are ready.

Once you have taken the test you will receive your results immediately
when you have finished. If you have failed don't give up. Go back
to your books and try again. If you've passed .
Now, once your driving reaches the required standard you can apply
for your practical test. Remember, don't apply until you are ready.
This way you should only need one test, and this will save you money.
